"Plus de 500 euros, c’est la valeur des billets qui dormaient dans le fond de caisse de notre entreprise depuis des années. Nous n'avons pas pu les échanger à la banque ou dans un lieu de change, jusqu'à ce que j'entende parler de The Currency Commission. Cet argent va servir à la fête de Noël annuelle. Merci!"

BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE STILL WAITING TO BE REDEEMED

Monday December 22nd, 2008 - London - The euro has been in circulation for over six years, but yet there are millions of people who still have old banknotes in their possession. While these banknotes are expired and not legal tender, they still have value through The Currency Commission.

European Member State Countries who adopted the euro as their official currency allowed public financial institutions to exchange domestic banknotes. However this conversion period has long since expired and the same financial companies no longer accept the expired banknotes for conversion to euro.

It is estimated that there is the equivalent of billions of euro outstanding in expired Member State banknotes sitting in people’s drawers, safety deposit boxes, desks and elsewhere. The Currency Commission was established to assist the public in converting old bank notes into euro, Canadian or US dollars.

Through The Currency Commission’s website, www.thecurrencycommission.com, individuals and groups can submit their expired banknotes for verification and conversion to the currency of their choice. The process takes only minutes to complete and converted funds can usually be delivered to clients within five to ten business days.

Many people still have old banknotes sitting around at home from previous vacations or business trips. The Currency Commission permits conversion into three currencies, euro, Canadian dollars and US dollars. Other currencies may be added should demand arise from other countries.
