The redemption period has long since passed and David Brooks of the Currency Commission estimates there is "the equivalent of billions of dollars of these non-legal tender banknotes in the desks, sock drawers and wallets of millions of travellers". La Currency Commission can change these expired banknotes into euros or Canadian or US dollars.
