"The euro is a great idea, but I wasn't able to redeem many of my European banknotes before the deadline. Now I can get cash for what I thought was worthless currency. I'm going to go through my office and find the rest of my old money."

Exchange ideas for a budget holiday

Exchange your old euro currency notes to boost your holiday fund
It is estimated that more than 3 billion euros in now redundant pre-euro currency notes is lying around in people's homes. The Currency Commission (www.thecurrencycommission.com) will exchange old notes for sterling, US dollars, euro or Canadian dollars. The exchange rates for each old euro currency stay the same as they were frozen at against the euro when it came in. If you want dollars or sterling, you will be subject to whatever exchange rates is in force when you sign up online. You must register with the website, download and sign a form, and send this back with your banknotes. The Currency Commission will then authenticate the notes and send you your new, valid currency. The process usually takes around two weeks. David Brooks, spokesman for the Currency Commission said: "We are now looking into a way to exchnange pre-euro currency coins as well - we estimate that there is a further 3 billion euro in coins lying around."
